The Maritime Museum

The location of Maritime Museum dates back to the 13th century when the first shipyard was built. Then in 1936 it was turned it into a museum and was restored. It is constantly being preserved, extended and developed. However, history lives on in its walls and its port-side location.

The Maritime Museum shows ships of all shapes and sizes, divers naval gear like maps and compasses, and things the Spanish brought back from their voyages to unknown countries.

Some of the most famous boat models shown are Magellan's Santa María de la Victoria on which Magellan did the first circumnavigation of the world. There is also a full size replica of Juan de Austria's lepanto "Galera" which you cannot miss. Then on the deck there is a virtual recreation of the crew of one of these ships, where you can begin to understand what they went through on these gut-wrenching journeys.
