El Museu Etnològic de Barcelona

If you are interested in the history of mankind, ethnology and folklore, then you must visit the Ethnological Museum in Barcelona (El Museu Etnològic de Barcelona).

This museum is a place that hosts a huge audiovisual collection of various artifacts, which were collected on time and brought from 5 continents. 70000 items of material culture, 40000 images, video and audio material will engross your attention. The Museum put a lot of emphasis on making people aware of different cultures, their history and traditions. But also another important mission of theirs is to represent Catalan culture and the culture of communities that inhabit Barcelona.

The Ethnological Museum in Barcelona was established in 1949. But its history goes back to 1920's when a group of scientists expressed the need to create a center that explains the origins, religion, language, social structure, and other aspects of traditional societies. In 1973, the museum moved in to a brand-new building, which is located on the Mountain of Montjuïc, not so far from famous Plaç? Espanya.
