Jardins del Palau Pedralbes

Behind a 250 meter long wall you can find one of the most elegant gardens in Barcelona: the gardens of the Pedralbes Royal Palace. A trip to this park will transport you to a time where calmness and majesty were determining elements of the landscape, as you can find many romantic bridges and verdant green areas from English and French influences.

When you pass through the entry of the gardens, a large open space will welcome you. You will directly see an oval pond in the middle with the sculpture of a woman in the centre. In front of that, there are beautiful flower fields; behind the sculpture you see well tended bay trees and orange trees, replete with a small waterfall. On both sides of the pond, there are footpaths, which lead you throughout the entire park so that you cannot get lost. It does not matter is you choose the left-hand path or the right-hand one, the park is beautiful in all directions.

The palace

If you just continue the paths, you will be lead to the Royal Palace, located at the back of the park. In front of the palace there is a nice square, which is a perfect place to sit for a moment and enjoy the view of the building.

There are two remarkable aspects about the park. The palace is the modification of the Güell tower, which formerly was the Feliu home, and became the residence of the royal family. The tower comprises the central body of the building and new rooms were built to both sides of it.

The second one is the white marble sculpture of queen Isabel II presenting her son, Alfons XII, to Barcelona, which is located in front of the main door. This sculpture is a work of Agapit Vallmitjana I Barbany (1861).

Unique elements

There are many unique elements throughout the park, which you will discover as you walk along the footpaths that cross the park in all directions, always surrounded by splendid vegetation, sometimes wooded, shady and fresh with birdsong filling the air.

You will pass two works of Antoni Gaudi during your stroll; a parabolic pergola covered with climbing plants and in a small fountain of Hercules, with water coming up of a dragon`s head. It was placed in 1984 to replace the original, when the fountain was discovered and restored hundred years after its construction.

If you like to explore the most beautiful things of Barcelona during your vacation, this elegant park should be on your to do list!
