Theme parks and water parks around Barcelona

If you want to enjoy a great, funny and refreshing day, a lot of parks are available with a radius of 100km from Barcelona. Most of them are accessible directly from the city centre by bus or train; for others, you may rent a car or take the bus/train from another city. 

Those parks include theme parks, such as the very famous Port Aventura Them Park in Salou, where you can enjoy amazing, top European attractions or water parks where you can enjoy astonishing slides or just relax into the pools. Some water parks also offer interactions with dolphins and seals such as the Aquópolis and the MarineLand water parks or with big cats or bears such as the safari offered by the Aqualeon water park.

In any case, this is an amazing experience to feel a rush of adrenaline or to spend a pleasant family day, especially if you want to refresh during this hot summer. Here is a selection of the greatest amusement parks around Barcelona.

Theme parks

Port Aventura

It is the most famous theme park in Catalunya. Located in the South of Barcelona in the city of Salou, Tarragona, it attracts around 5 million visitors a year and offers some of the best attractions in Europe, making it the 6th most visited theme park in Europe. Port aventura is divided into two parks, a theme park and a water park. The theme park is divided into 6 areas: Far-West, Mediterrània, México, China, Polynesia and the Sésamo area dedicated to children.
The park also offers visitors shows during the day and seasonal events during summer or for Halloween. Port Aventura gathers some of the best attractions in Europe, including:

  • The Furius Baco, a 135km/h coaster
  • The Hurukan Condor: a 100 meters free fall considered as one of the tallest in the world at a speed of 115km/h
  • The Dragon Khan: this attraction has eight inversions , a world record, as well as the tallest vertical loop in the world. It forms part of the best roller coaster in the world with a speed of 105km/h.
  • The Shambala: this is the greatest attraction of the park. Why? Because the Shambala beats three European records, the fastest roller coaster (134km/h), the tallest (76 meters high) and the longest descent (78 meters). 
  • The Stampida: a race between two wooden roller coaster that reach 76km/h.

The theme park also offers many water attractions including Silver River Flume, Grand Canyon Rapids, Angkor or Tutuki Splash, which are really pleasant during hot sunny times and which are really attractive for families; it offers attractions including water falls, splash attractions and water rides. Do not forget that the Sésamo part of the park is dedicated to children and you can find 11 attractions, as well as funny and interesting shows or 4D experience.

To go to Port Aventura, you can take the train from Barcelona at Passeig de gracia, Sants Estació or Estació de França. There is a package that groups train journey + park entry for 45€. The train station is located at the entry of the park. You can also drive by car, in any case the journey will not last more than one hour.

Tibidabo Park

It is a 100 years old amusement park located on the Tibidabo hill in Barcelona. The park offers 25 attractions and rides, mostly for children but many teenagers and adults also go there. You can also benefit from an amazing sight over all Barcelona from the Camí Del Ciel (“Sky Walk”). Many facilities are available for visitors such as restaurants, picnic areas or souvenir shops.

Amongst the attractions, you can find caroussel, automaton museum, roller coaster, 3D experience, bumper car, mirrors hall, giant wheel or train excursion. This is definitely not the place to go if you are looking for big thrills, but if you want a very friendly and warm atmosphere , a lot of families go there with their children to spend a pleasant day.

Water parks


Located at 70km from Barcelona, in Palafolls, MarineLand is an aquatic park very famous and convenient because it offers dolphins shows, a marine zoo with sea lions, penguins or birds and a water park with several attractions. There are also many swimming pools with water games for children in order to enjoy family activities.

If you want to experience adrenaline, amongst the most popular rides are:

  • The Boomerang –a 15 meters half pipe-
  • The Black Hole –a 12 meters vertiginous descent in a dark slide-
  • The Hydrotube –a 60 meters long tube that ends in a huge bowl where centrifugal force will make you feel like inside of a tornado.

For family activities, you can (re)discover the famous slide races with the Crazy Races attraction, The Super Slalom, Children Paradiz with many water games for the youngest or The Twister –a spiral slide to experience adrenaline safely. There are also a lot of swimming pools and gardens to chillo ut, sunbath and enjoy a great day.

Regarding the dolphinarium, MarineLand is known in Europe for its experience with dolphins and the park counts no less than 10 dolphins´ births. Amazing shows are offered to visitors where dolphins jump, play and interact with their trainers. Two shows are organized at 12:30 and 17:00.

Eventually, you are given the opportunity to see other water animals in the marine zoo. It includes sea lions shows that are really entertaining and impressive; water birds such as storks and flamingos that you can feed at 17:00, a very friendly experience that needs to be shared in family!; eventually, you can see pinguins, usually beloved by children, and can feed them at 10:45am. This marine zoo will amaze children as well as adults alike!

To get there, there is a free bus service from Tossa, Lloret, Blanes, Calella, Pineda, Santa Susanna and Malgrat cities. There is also a bus from Estació del Nord. The journey may last about 1h30. Otherwise, you should rent a car.

Port Aventura Aquatic Park - Costa Caribe

This is the second park of the Portaventura park. If theme park is not your thing, you can go to this incredible water park! Costa Caribe is one of the best water parks in Spain and will bring you an unforgettable experience. With more than 20 attractions, this is the place to enjoy a great day in family! You can also sunbath next to palm trees with reggae music in the air and relax in the swimming pool or in the artificial river, in any case you will enjoy a Caribbean atmosphere. There are also restaurants and souvenir shops to make your experience the greatest possible.  Shows are also organized during the day.

If you want to experience adrenaline rush, if you want to compete on a vertiginous slide race, if you want to go down a turbulent river, or if you simply want to enjoy swimming pools, water games and family rides, Costa Caribe is made for you!

To go there, as the Portaventura theme park, you can take the train from Passeig de Gracia, Sants Estació or Estació de Sants, all in Barcelona.

Illa Fantasia

Located in Vilassar de Dalt, Premía de Mar, 30km away from Barcelona, the park offers 18 attractions, 7 swimming pools as well as gardens to relax or sunbath. Amongst the most famous rides:

  • Spiral slides such as The Espirotub or The Espiral
  • Races such as Kamikazes or The Megatous
  • Adrenaline-full rides such as The Supertobogán, The Torpedo or The ZigZags. 

There are also restaurants, pic-nic areas and souvenirs for your day to be the best possible.

To get there, you can take the bus from Sants Estació, Plaça Catalunya, Arc de Triomf or Clot in Barcelona. There are also packages with entry tickets + free bus journey. You can also take the train from the same stations (Line1).

Located in Lloret del Mar, Costa Brava, 80km away from Barcelona, this is one of the most famous water parks in Spain. With 20 attractions, the park offers an unforgottable experience both for families and adrenaline-seekers!

Among the top rides are:

  • The Water Mountain, the largest water coaster in Europe, with a 250m ride in the dark!
  • The Storm, a 4m diameter slide at high velocity with a 80 meters vertiginous descent finishing in a huge vortex!

To get there, you can take the Eurolines bus from the centre of Barcelona or there is a free-bus service offered from cities like Calella, Santa Susana, Malgrat de Mar or Blanes.

Located in Girona, in Castell  Platja D'Aro, 100km away from Barcelona, this park offers 22 attractions, among which adrenaline-full slides, swimming pools, water games, slide races and children and baby pools to enjoy a pleasant day.

Among the top rides are:

  • The Aqua Rocket, a free fall from a capsule
  • The Black and Yellow Kamikazes, both 60 meters descent in a dark pipe or in open air!
  • One of the best water attractions in Europe, The Water Fall; if you want to experience big thrills, this 100 meters descent offers the possibility to enjoy the ride in couple and experience a strong velocity!

There are also swimming pools, wave pools, soft slide races, zigzag, and a fake lake for families and children.

To get there, you can take the bus service from Palamós, Calonge or Castell d´Aro. If you want to go to Aquadiver from Barcelona centre, you should rent a car.

Located in Roses, Costa Brava, this park offers 20 attractions, both for sensation seekers and families. The top rides are:

  • The Kamikaze and The Bullet, two slides that make you experience a 17 meters free fall for a huge rush of adrenaline!
  • The Cobra, a long ride in group that ends in a half-pipe with high velocity!
  • The White and the Black Holes; the White one is a 17m vertical drop while the Black Hole is a 125m ride in the dark, very exciting!  

Other attractions of interest are The Rio Grande and Rio Danube, two huge slides you can ride in groups! The Colorado, The Rio Bravo and The Mississippi, three undulating slides in the dark or in open-air that will make you experience great thrills! The Anaconda, a 200 meters long river you can ride in family with twists and turns! Eventually, The Octospeed, a slide race with 8 slides! 

You can also find family attractions with pools, a labyrinth, a pirate boat, water games, artificial rivers and lagoons. Restaurants, grassy areas and snacks are available to enjoy the greatest day ever! 

Located at 160km from Barcelona, you should better get a car to go there. Otherwise, you can take a bus from Figueres, L´Escala, L´Estartit or Llançá cities.

Aqualeon is a two-part park located in Tarragona, 80km away from Barcelona, and offers a water park and a safari tour. There you can enjoy adrenaline rides with high velocity water roller coaster, free fall rides, slide race, both in dark or in open-air. There are also attractions dedicated to children with slaloms, rapid river, water games and a wave pool. This is really funny for those who are looking for strong emotions or for families who want to enjoy a refreshing day during summer. 

Next to this water park, a safari tour by bus is organized and you are offered the chance to admire wild animals including lions, bears, tigers and jaguars. There is also a mini-zoo where you can see racoons, meerkat and other animals. This attraction is strongly loved by children and is very educational. 

If you want to get there, you can take the bus from Sitges, Salou or Vilanova or rent a car.

Located in the Costa Dorada, 100km south from Barcelona, the park is divided into two parts, a water park and a dolphinarium. 

The water park offers six extreme attractions, including slide race, free fall, pipe line slide, surfing and huge slides in the dark. You can enjoy a rush of adrenaline while riding down these amazing, vertiginous descents, in groups or alone. 

There are also more moderate rides, such as zigzags, river or speed race. Eventually, you can find many swimming pools, lagoons or rivers to relax, sunbath and refresh! Many family activities are offered for the great pleasure of children, including water games, a mini park with safe rides, an adventure castle with a turtle shape and a fake jungle. 

The dolphinarium is very attractive and gives visitors the opportunity to see dolphins and seals shows but also to interact with animals by getting into the water with trainers.  Children love to swim with sea lions and to touch dolphins, this is a magic moment for them, but also for adults! Exhibitions are organized with dolphins and educational formation is also given to make people aware of the importance of preserving these species. It is one of the best attractions of the park, very funny and educational.  

Many facilities are offered, such as restaurants, snacks, as well as a VIP area where there are beds and a bar to relax or sunbath.    

To get there, you can take the bus from Tarragona, Sitges, Salou. You can also take the train from Salou. Otherwise you may rent a car.
