MACBA - Museum of Modern and Contemporary Arts

In the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, you can see contemporary art from the year 1940 until today. Most of MACBA's exhibitions are temporary. A lot of art pieces in the collections are from Catalan artists like Miró and Tàpies. However, there are also art pieces exhibited from artists of other regions and countries. Through this, different international tendencies can be perceived. The museum was designed by the famous American Richard Meier and opened its doors in 1995. The build is made out of big glass surfaces combined with white ones. Some parts of the building are very modern, standing out with its undulating surfaces. The monumental building caused a lot of commotion, because such a modern building didn't seem to suit an area like El Raval.
