Diagonal caddesi ile Catalunya meydanı arasında kalan bölümün büyük kısmı Eixample bölgesini oluşturur. 1860'tan sonra şehir duvarlarının yıkılmasıyla Barselona genişlemeye başladı. Bu çerçevede oluşan Eixample bölgesi şüphesiz Avrupa şehirleşmesinin özgün bir örneğidir. Bugün Eixample birçok ünlü markanın mağazalarının, yerleşim yerlerinin, sanat galerilerinin, restoranların ve barların bulunduğu bir semt ve Barselona'nın merkezidir. Eixample bölgesinin merkezi olan Passeig de Gracia caddesi Gaudi'nin ünlü La Pedrera'sına ev sahipliği yapmaktadır.

Eixample'nin sağ tarafı daha eskidir ve buna bağlı olarak mimari daha etkileyicidir. Aslında iki taraf arasında çok büyük bir fark yoktur. La Pedrera ve Casa Batllo, Gaudi'nin dizayn ettiği rüya gibi iki bina da bu caddede yer almaktadır. Bunların dışında Katalan sanatçı Antoni Tapies'in müzesi yine Passeig de Gracia'nın yakınındadır.
