Shopping in Barcelona

Portal del Ángel,  located in the center of the city, is a large commercial street starting at Plaza Catalunya, end ending at the Cathedral.

Walking down the street towards the south, your eyes are greeted with muliticoloured swathes of people moving from one side to the other, distractedly looking in the shop windows or chatting with friends on the square benches.

Portal del Ángel is recommended for those looking for the “cosmopolitan fauna” of the city, whilst picking up bargains in the fashionable clothes shops.

The bustle of the shoppers and tourists share the street with the relaxed jobcentre atmosphere provided by street artists intent on demonstrating their abilities. Hip hop dancers, opera singers, jazz bands... they can all be found in this large avenue, entertaining the drifting crowds all day long.

After stopping for an icecream in “planelles Donat” (traditional makers of icecream, turrón and horchata), follow the inertia of people towards the heart of the Barrio Gótico, the avenue leading off into small, winding streets full of innumerable   shops and restaurants, such as “Els Quatre Gats”, a famous meeting place for modernist artists of a bygone time.

At the bottom of the avenue, it forks into two. To the left, calle dels Arcs, which leads to the cathedral and its large square, offering a rest and a cool drink on one of the terraces after your shopping.
To the right, we have calle Cucurulla, which leads into the famous  Portaferrisa, one of the best shopping streets of Barcelona.
