La Boquería market
Monday, 27 July 2009 08:55
Strolling down the Ramblas there are lots of things to see, flower stalls, street artists, emblematic buildings, but one of the most rewarding is the Boqueria market.
Even though how it came to be there is not exactly clear, what is certain is that is started off as a street market on the Ramblas.
With the years, la Boquería has converted into the most emblematic market of the whole city. The structure, its location and the market holders themseles have ensured that the market is on the to-do list of most of the tourists who visit Barcelona.
Through the variety of stalls you can get a real sense of the identity of the city, as most of the stall holders are the third or fourth generation to do so. The perfect fusion between past and present, a cultural, economic and social meeting place.

The main attraction to the market is the opportunity to sample the rich gastronomy of Barcelona and Catalunya. One only has to take a stroll amongst the 300+ stalls to be overwhelmed with colours, flavours and smells.
When visiting la Boquería, a must see is “el Pinotxo”, where you can sit at the long bar and enjoy one of its amazing dishes, made with the best food from the market in a Catalan style, while Juanito serves you with a big smile. Don´t miss it!
