Tibidabo Amusement Park
Tibidabo amusement park is one of the symbols of Barcelona and also an amazing place to be! It is one of the oldest amusement parks in the world, over a century old. Both, kids and adults will enjoy the lovely little theme park. Do not expect an ultra modern family park since it is an very old park, built in 1989, but the views and the friendly atmosphere is even more enjoyable.
The park has 25 attractions for young and old, great shows and street artists, which makes it a fun attraction itself to just walk through the park. Furthermore, the park has a wide range of facilities for visitors, such as restaurants (mostly with amazing views), picnic areas and host services to ensure a great day from beginning to end.
In 1900 it became possible to reach the amusement park from Barcelona with a tram called Blue Tram and a funicular railway. At the same time, at the top of the mountain, work continued with the landscaping and construction of the buildings and terraces that are nowadays an example of modernism in Barcelona. in 1901, the park and the other facilities were officially opened, while the funicular railway turned out to be the first main attraction as it has an innovative nature as a method of transport. This became an important technological fact in Barcelona`s history.
How to get to Tibidabo's amusement park?
Take the brown Line, L7 from Plaza de Catalunya Metro. Note, this is a train rather than the Metro, so follow signs for Renfe. Get off at Avenida Tibidabo. From there you will take the Tramvia Blue which takes you half way up the mountain. To reach the park at top, you also need to catch a funicular train from the half way point. Once reached the top you will be provided with amazing views of Barcelona, an amusement park for the kids and a full day of joy and fun.
There are lots of types of rides, none of which compare to the newer ones around today. They are much moe sedate than what you see at theme parks these days and are, as a result, perfect for adults and children. There are people in fancy dress, little stalls and places to eat so it makes a great day out.
A day pass costs 25.00€ for an adults and 9.00€ for children shorter than 120cm. Children shorter than 90cm go free. If however you do not want pay that much there is the option to pay for individual rides one by one. However thisi limits the rides you can go on a they have to be the ones outside the gates, like the ferris wheel.
Make sure you check the park is open before you go. It has quite sporadic opening times!
