Churros Con Chocolate
Thursday, 01 July 2010 14:23
Churros Con Chocolate is a speciality from Spain that also has become very popular in Latin America, most of former Spanish colonies and other places such as the United States or Australia. They are often referred to as the Spanish doughnut as they consist of fried dough –often potato dough- that is then dipped in hot liquid chocolate sauce. In general Churros have the shape of a prism, are fried until crunchy and then sprinkled with sugar.
There are two types of Churros, one is thin, small and often knotted; the other one is long and thick and especially popular in places around Madrid.
They are normally eaten for breakfast and are especially popular among the young after a long night-out.
Usually, they are served in Churrerias but one can also buy them in Cafes in the morning and often also during the day as a snack.
Having been exported worldwide there are now many different variations of the original Spanish recipe. For example in Uruguay one can even find savoury Churros that are filled with cheese.
In Barcelona, Churrerias are to be found in many streets and one only needs to keep their eyes open to spot one.
