A Rooftop in the old city apartment

USERRATING 8/10 2012-05-20 by client The location was very central. It not in the most secure part of the city. The terrace was fabulous and made our stay really enjoyable. Would have been nice to have some basic extras for cooking such as oil and condiments and a larger coffee pot. The bed is low so not the best for people with restricted flexibility. CavaThe Spanish sparkling wine –Cava- first doesn’t seem to be that exclusive and popular like the world-famous French Champagne.  However, Cava also has a very long history and can be a very exclusive treat as well.

According to the legend, Josep Raventós Fatjó of the Codorníu estate is said to have been the first one to produce wine made with the same method the French use –the methode champenoise- in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, (Cataluña,) Spain in 1872. The wine had turned out so great, that he ordered a cool cellar or cava dug in order to produce more of it and in due course, the first Cava could be sold to the public. The success was huge, especially among the high society and even the royal family. Thus, Cava's history and success story had begun. Today, still many visitors come to the Codorníu winery every year to have a look at the origin of this world famous drink and of course to also have a try. Cava, however, as opposed to Champagne is sold at a lot more competitive prices and therefore is consumed by a large portion of the Spanish population every year for special occasions, e.g. Christmas or New Years Eve.

There are several types of Cava one can choose of. The cheaper ones are usually very sweet and the less sugary ones can become quite pricy. Different Types: Extra Brut – 0-6 grams of sugar per litre, the driest of the cava Brut – 0-15 grams of sugar per litre Extra Seco – 12-20 grams of sugar per litre Seco – 17-35 grams of sugar per litre Semi-Seco – 33-50 grams of sugar per litre Dulce – More than 50 grams of sugar per litre, the sweetest of the cava Cava is exported worldwide nowadays yet it remains a true Spanish or more Catalonian speciality and can be bought in the majority of restaurants all over Spain.   Still looking for accommodation in Barcelona?
