La Rambla of Barcelona - Las Ramblas
Thursday, 30 April 2009 14:02
The Ramblas formed the bed of the torrent that carried the water down from the Collserola mountains to the sea. The first stretch of the the Ramblas takes the name of Canaletes from a tower that once rose from the city’s medieval wall. The next stretch is the Rambla dels Ocells (birds), where there are a number of stalls selling dogs, cats, canaries and even turtles. Then comes the Rambla de les Flors, which is the location of La Boqueria market and the Palau de la Virreina. Along the Rambla dels Caputxins stands the famous Gran Teatre de Liceu, while the last and broadest stretch is the Rambla of Santa Mónica, which extends as far as the Passeig de Colom. This fascinating avenue is considered to be the heart and soul of Barcelona and represents the excitement that attracts some many people to visit the city.
