Barcelona is well-known for her brilliant nightlife; every night there is something going on in town. Barcelona, in a fact is rich of hip clubs, outdoor discotheques and relaxing lounge bars. At the same time there are many alternative clubs where the atmosphere is a little looser and less formal. With more than 500 bars, music bars, cocktail bars, clubs and nightclubs; Barcelona has a lot of entertainment by night. The term ‘night life’ must be taken literally, because many bars and especially clubs don’t open their doors before midnight and stay open until the early hours.
Thursday is student night, and as you can understand, many students on Thursdays are going out. Thursday is also an inexpensive evening and many discotheques have free entrances. Friday and Saturday are the most popular nights to go out. An ordinary evening would usually begin with an extensive dinner in a restaurant with friends, some drinks in a bar and around three o’clock going to dance in one of the many discotheques.

Is one of the most popular night clubs in Barcelona and like the name already implies, is a very fancy club where you can enjoy some good music and experience the Spanish parties. It is one of the busiest clubs in the city, where the youth prefer to go and spend their evenings. Because it is located next to the beach, in the Barceloneta area, it is a very popular hot spot for tourists visiting Barcelona and that is why you can enjoy a very international atmosphere.
If you come to Barcelona is impossible not to go and enjoy one night in Catwalk because it is a “must do” when it comes to going out. It is a place with style and great atmosphere where you can have drinks and enjoy some amazing music sessions.

Opium Mar is one of the most popular clubs when it comes to night clubbing in Barcelona. If you are coming for the first time, one of the first things that you have to know is that you are coming to one of the cities that never ¨sleeps¨. One thing people find out quickly when they visit Barcelona is that it is a city that never sleeps.Restaurants,bars and nightclubs, all are widely present in Barcelona. The Spanish people have a habit of eating late,drinking late and going out until the early morning.Dinner is around 9 pm, drinks are around 1, most bars will be open until 2/3. After that most people will hit the clubs, of course there are clubs and disco's open before that time but it won't be crowded until after midnight.

Barcelona's urban beaches are fun by day and party beaches by night. This beach is twice the length of adjoining Nova Icaria and fringed by a stretch of stone walkway perfect for jogging, roller blading and cycling. The raised promenade cuts down on traffic noise and makes it possible to almost believe you're a million miles from the city. No beach bars, but three large informal restaurants on the promenade. The Teatro Poliorama has been established in the year 1906 as a cinema and for many years it has shown the newest and best the movie scene had to offer at that time. It was only in 1937 that the place had been used as a theatre for the first time (Catalan Theatre of Comedy) and this period only lasted until 1939 when the Second World War broke out and it had not been reopened thereafter until the year 1963. After having been closed for some years in the 80s and after having undergone a huge reconstruction process it was newly reopened in 1985 and has ever since functioned as a theatre with modern appeal.

The Razzmatazz nightclub has been in Barcelona for such a long time already that it might even be considered an institution. It is huge and it offers a unique mix of people as it attracts clubbers from all kinds of nationalities and musical genres as it has 5 different areas to offer that all play a completely different type of music. So one can first dance to Hip Hop tunes and then wander to the punk rock area to let lose even more. There is an entrance fee of 15€ that enables access to all 5 areas and that also includes a free drink. Due to the enormous size of the Club there are also lots of different bars so that in general one does not have to wait very long to be served.

La Terrazza is a great nightclub in el Poble Espanyol in Barcelona. El Poble Espanyol is a village built for visitors to experience the different architecture and culturs the various parts of Spain have to offer but it is also one the list of Barcelona's best nighlife areas.
The club itself is located in a castle with winding staircases and has lots to offer to its guests. For example one can dance outside and enjoy great views as the Poble Espanyol is located in Montjuic which is a neighborhood that is elevated above the rest of Barcelona and that guarantees spectacular views. The atmosphere is very cosmopolitan as this club is visited by locals and tourists alike and this international spirit makes this club especially attractive and popular and it well deserves it's place on the list of the top Club addresses in Europe. I recently went to bar called “Monroe 27” which is located in Gothic district on the C/ de Josep Anslem Clave street. It opened about an half year ago and stands strongly among other bars in Barcelona.

La champagneria is a great place to visit in Barcelona, a bar that is always rammed full of people making merry. Enjoy some delicious tapas whilst supping on some cava, the bottles here are really cheap and absolutely delicious. Located at the bottom of el Borne near Port Vell, it never fails to provide a good time. Locals and tourists alike meet here and you are sure to have a fantastic time. Brimming with atmosphere and styled with traditional decor, with hams hanging from the ceiling and lots of exposed beams. Fantastic.

Trash is a fairly new addition to the nightlife in Barcelona a few blocks from Passeig de Gracia in Eixample. It is classified as a lounge bar and has a very chilled out atmosphere in close knit, designer-kitsch surroundings. They play different music each night from Latin freestyles groove to house and R'n'B. It sits right in the middle of "gay"xample as the area is called for its huge number of gay bars, and as a result Trash stands out as one of the only straight bars around.
W Hotel

The W Hotel also known as Hotel Vela due to its sail like resemblence. It is the most expensive hotel in Barcelona and sits right between the port and the beach with an incredible view of the city. However impressive it is, it has caused a massive uproar amongst the locals of Barcelona because of the was it has altered the shore line. There is a law that meant nothing could be built on the beach because of the way it would alter the skyline but the Vela hotal got round the rules as it is technically on the port. As a result it is a very international and affluent place.

Otto Zutz is a great club in Gracia. It is a mix between the swankiness of Opium or Sutton but with a slightly more relaxed feel. The highlight of the club has to be its three types of music. On the ground and biggest floor they play RnB, absolute classics that you have forgotten about. The VIP bit is right in the middle of the dance floor so is accessible btu does not get in the way. Upstairs there is an electro room and a old classica. Although the rooms are not even really separated there is no mix of sounds. The classics play Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi amongst many others and it means that whenever you get bored of a song you can switch areas to find something you prefer.

Shoko is one of the big powers when it comes to clubbing in Barcelona, but what makes it stand out from the others like Opium and Catwalk is its amazing restaurant. If you know the club, you will be aware that it is right on the beach and thus imagine what an amazing view you have if you eat there in the evening. Admittedly the clubs on the beach have an air of glamour about them that is not very in keeping with the relaxed way of life in inner city Barcelona, you feel more like you are in St. Tropez rather than Barcelona. However this does not mean in any way that it is not a great place to go to eat, drink and hit the dance floor.

Casa Almirall is more than a bar, it is another great institution like London Bar filled with history that has survived through the years, going in there is like taking a step back in time. It was founded years ago in 1860 and was redecorated in 2000 and 2001.

There are 2 Manchester Bars in the city and they are famous for a good time. One is in Raval and the other in Ciutat Vella which was opened later. They are slightly different in lay out but keep the same kind of vibe, with the one in Raval being a bit more rock like than the other. They are not like the bars you find in Born or Gracia where you could relax with a cup of coffee; this is not recommended as the place is normally packed with people from all over the world looking for a party. This is facilitated by the 2€ Mortiz's they serve.

This bar hidden among the trees next to the church Llobregat is the perfect place for a drink. Not only can you find food and drink but a great time is guaranteed as well. It keeps the cool Bohemian vibe that Gracia is so famous for and is a great place to relax for a coffee as well as an alcoholic drink. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights they put on great music like flamenco, rumba and son and if music's not your thing then go for the photographs; they have a great selection of pictures on the walls. The staff are great which must be one of the reasons why the same customers keep on coming back.

El Copetín is a charming bar in Born decorated as Born is accustomed with wood on the walls and the high ceilings which you see so often in that area. At every table you will find candles and popcorn which creates a really relaxed feel and sets the mood of the bar. this place os perfect for a quiet drink and an early bed time or the start to a long night of bar crawling, either way it has a great atmosphere. The mojitos are great and cost about 6€ and they serve all sorts of other things, beers are about 4€.

Raïm means grape in Catalán, which would suggest this is a wine bar but it is not. This bar has a Cuban vibe and a great rhythm anout it: Salsa, Trova, Son...! It si decorated with characteristic photos of Cuba and primarily La Habana. Photos of historical figures, the old cars, the bicitaxis and ofcource Ché. This place serves the best mojito in the city, and for only 5€. Beers are about 2,50€ so it is a great place to go for a quiet drink.

Rouge Bar is in the area called Born and is the perfect place to go for a bite to eat and a few drinks. It has a vibe moer like a restaurant until around midnight where the atmosphere turns more into a that of a busy bar. The bar area becomes more crowded and people exchane their plates for glasses! They serve a great selection of beer, which come in glasses of all shapes and sizes. A beer averages 3-4 euros and a cocktail about 6-7.

Bar Marsella is an authentic Spansih experience, tucked away in Raval. It is thought to be on of the first bars in Barcelona, frequented by the likes of Hemingway, Dali, Picasso and ofcourse Gaudi.

Magarita Blue is a very well known bar in Barcelona for its Mexican food and great cocktails. It attracts a very diverse bunch of people as it shows live theatre twice a week, which is great if you want to make more of going out for supper. There is a real Spanish feel about the bar, rather than these tourist targeting ones with nouveau interiors and over priced menus. It is open from 7pm to 3 pm so you can settle in for the night or just stop by for a few drinks.

Ice Barcelona is a bar completely made of ice down near the beach in Barceloneta. It is such a fun place to go for a drink. They have recreated famous parts of Barcelona in ice; the lizard from Parc Guell, the Sagrada Familia and many other incredible ice sculptures. Everyone is given the same coat so as not to get cold and then you can sit, relax and drink in one of the most unexpected environments. They have and extensive list of cocktails and you can have a sub zero beer. The Ice Bar is understandably very popular so they suggest that if you are in a group bigger than five people you should book ahead and if you are more than 10 they ask you to leave a deposit.

From a practicality point of view zou should give a little thought to what you wear if you are visiting Barcelona. It is alwazs wise to trza dn blend in with the locals, to avoid unwanted attention and show a bit of respect. Ofcourse you have the right to dress how zou like but whilst visiting certain places, do be aware of tradition. For instance if you are visiting a church make sure you are not too scantily clad, religion is still a large part of Spanish cultutre.

Only half an hour with train from Barcelona there is a small town on the sea coast called Sitges. It is well known as a famous gay resort. With it's fabulous, almost postcard-like architecture: traditional Mediterranean mixed with a Cuban-colonial style is a perfect place to spend a day or two, especially when you are gay and you are staying in Barcelona.
