A Rooftop in the old city apartment

USERRATING 8/10 2012-05-20 by client The location was very central. It not in the most secure part of the city. The terrace was fabulous and made our stay really enjoyable. Would have been nice to have some basic extras for cooking such as oil and condiments and a larger coffee pot. The bed is low so not the best for people with restricted flexibility. Barcelona Information

How to get to BarcelonaA question many tourists usually ask themselves when they land at the airport is how to get to their destination. The most common thing to do is to take a cab and let him drive you to your hotel or sometimes the hotel has a busservice.
It does however often occur that airport is located far from the city and it will cost you a lot of money if you want to take a taxi.

That is why it is good to know what your best options are when arrive at a airport what is the fastest quickest way to get from there to the city.We will be looking at the what are the best ways to get from the airport to Barcelona´s city center.

Barcelona has 3 airports nearby which means logically the best way to travel from there on would vary from airport to airport. The biggest and most used airport in barcelona is the Barcelona airport we will first look at that one, what are the best ways to get to the city from terminal 1 and terminal 2 after that we will take a look at the other two airports.

Barcelona Airport

This is the biggest airport in Barcelona and also the most used one, it normally takes you 20 minutes or something to get to the city centre. All of the following options are good ways to reach the centre.
You can find more information on your prefered way of transportation here.

Taxi

A taxi is a quick, convenient way to get to the city centre, also it is cheaper then you would expect, this because the airport is not to far from the city. It does not matter if you are at terminal 1 or 2 you can find taxi's anywhere. However, if you want to call a cab this is the number: (0034) 93 303 3033. The whole journey is about 20/30 minutes depending a bit on the time and road conditions. Keep in mind that terminal 1 is 4 km further than terminal 2 which will add another 5 minutes. The price of the taxi is around 25/30 Euros and there is also a additional fare for the bags, you can find that listed in the taxi.In general taxi's are very handy and reliable and therefore a good choice after a long flight.

Aerobus

The aerobus is a expres service that takes you from the airport to the city centre. The aerobus leaves from both terminal 1 and 2, to bus takes you to placa Espanya or Placa Catalunya, both are good to get off and then take the underground.Tickets cost 5.05 Euros for a single and 8.65 for a return which is valid up till 9 days.
Here you can find the timetable of the Aerobusservice.

Airport night bus

Nitebus N17 enables you to take the bus at night if you want to. The bus travels from T1 to the city centre, the service starts at 21:50 untill 4:50 am.The NiteBus is a smart choice if you want to save money because the ticketprice is only €1.40 per person.

Train

Some people wonder often wonder if it is possible to travel via the underground from and to the airport, the answer is no, it isn't.There is however the possibility to travel via train towards the city. Every 30 minutes the train from the airport leaves from undergroundstation Aeropuerto(from terminal a shuttle bus service leaves to the trainstation), the stops where you can get off are Barcelona Sants, Passeig  de Gracia or Clot, there you can switch metro's and get to your final destination. The whole trainride will take approximately 25 minutes.

The other two airports where people often land when they want to get to Barcelona are Reus and Girona, A lot of people choose this because they fly cheap with ryan air or easyjet, they think that they are landing in Barcelona but the truth is that the only real Barcelona Airport is the one we just talked about, the Barcelona Airport.Reus and Girona are approximately 100 km located away from the city. But lets take a look for when you do land at one of those airports and need to get to the city centre. You can find the timetable for the train here.

Reus Airport

When you arrive at Reus airport and you want to travel to Barcelona, you have two options, either by train, taxi, car or by bus.
First lets take a look at how you can get there by car.

Car

You might think where am i going to get a car when i just arrived at a aiport with a plane. No worries, in the terminal of the airport there are a lot of car rental companies where you can decide to rent a car and go to Barcelona. This option is not advised though, it is very easy to get lost on your way and parking spaces can be too expensive for a rental car for a holiday. If you do decide to go with the car then it will take you about 90 minutes to reach Barcelona.

Bus

There are busses who stop in front of the Reus airport and provide youw ith the opportunity to travel directly to Barcelona's Estacia sants station in 1.5 hours. This will cost you €11,-.

Train

The train is also a good option, first you will have to take a bus in front of the airport and travel to Reus coach station.(20 min) there you can take a train to Barcelona, this will take 90 minutes. The price is about €5,- .

Taxi

At last you also off course can take a taxi to Barcelona city centre, this will be quicker the the other options, the downside though is that you pay about € 170,- This is a bit too much when you decided to fly to reus with a cheap flight, that way it would have been better have just flown to Barcelona airport in the first place. So we can conclude that the best option is to travel by bus or train.

Girona Airport

Bus

Girona is Aiport is also located outside the city, about 100km from Barcelona. The best way to travel from Girona is by Bus, it goes directly to the city and costs €21,- for a return. The bus will take you to Estacio d'autobuses Barcelona Nord. The undergroundstation Arc de triomf (red line l1) is very near and from there on you can easily get to your destination. You can see the time of the bus departures here, you can buy tickets at a Sagales booth at Girona airport.

Train

If for some reason you end up unable to go to Barcelona with the bus then there are other solutions available. e.g. by train, you need a bus or taxi to get to the centrum of Girona where you can aboard a train that will take you directly to Barcelona.

Taxi

The last option is to take a Taxi, this will take around 1.5 hour and will cost €,-120, Maybe if you are a group of 4 people it can work because you can divide the bill between the four of you but otherwise the bus would be the best option.

So as you can see there a lot of ways of traveling to the Barcelona city centre, it depends a bit where youa re traveling from.In the end we recommend that you go to the Barcelona airport as it is the closest to the centre and therefore the most comfortable option. However if you decide to take the cheapest route and fly to Girona or Reus we reccomend that from there on you take the bus because it will be direct and also relatively cheap. The other options often cause for the total price of your journey ( Flight and travel towards your destination) to become too high and you would have been better off at the Barcelona airport. It depends a bit on your priorities what the best option is for you, but hopefully this information will help you make a selection and will help creating a good trip in Barcelona.
