Parc de l´Espanya Industrial
At the beginning of the 20th Century, the place where the park is now established hosted a large textile factory called La España Industrial. The existence of this park shows the strong movement of renovation of old parts of the city that occured during the late seventies. Such program had the objective to restore land that was once occupied by industrial businesses or services that had either closed down or moved to other places within Barcelona's metropolitan area. After the closing of the factory in 1969, the owners sold the land and the local demand wanted the city to provide resources and equipments to lay out the empty ground with a beautiful park in order to develop the area. The park, built by Luis Peña Ganchegui, was inaugurated in 1985.
In the park, you may encounter a giant iron dragon of 32 meters long and 12 meters high, that is used by children as a slide. Also a large pound guarder by Neptune and Venus can be seen through the water thanks to a clever reflection. This is a perfect place to rest in shady places, to sunbathe, to go for a walk and discover new vegetation varieties or simply to refresh thanks to the pond where you can sail in rowing boat.
