A Rooftop in the old city apartment

USERRATING 8/10 2012-05-20 by client The location was very central. It not in the most secure part of the city. The terrace was fabulous and made our stay really enjoyable. Would have been nice to have some basic extras for cooking such as oil and condiments and a larger coffee pot. The bed is low so not the best for people with restricted flexibility. In and Around Barcelona

The Olympic Village (vila Olimpica) of Poblenou is in the district of Sant Martí, in the Poblenou area, and was built as a residence for athletes during the Barcelona Olympic games of 1992. The areas limits are marked by the roads Marina, Salvador Espriu, Wellington, Llull, Àvila, Avinguda d'Icària and Jaume Vicens i Vives. The zone closest to the park was previously known as Fort Pius, which also extended accross part of the neighbourhood of El Parc and Llacuna.

The Vila Olímpica was the first maritime area of Barcelona and boasts a new leisure marina, a large promenade and a good selection of bars and restaurantes. It was designed by Martorell, Bohigas, Mackay and Puigdoménech, and the buildings are the work of FAD architectural award winners.

In addition to the purpose of providing Barcelona accommodation for the Olympics, the area was built with the objective of modernizing this sector of Barcelona.

The Olympic port has a large number of berths for pleasure boats, surrounded by bars, nightclubs and restaurants. To the north of the port is the Noca Icària beach.
Also in this predominantly residential area, one can find a shopping center called “La Vila”, as well as a catholic church and  a centre for Hindus.
