Palau Reial de Pebralbes
Saturday, 12 June 2010 06:00
This beautiful attraction was created in the 17th century and acquired by the Güell family in 1862. Joan Martorell was in charge of the renovation of this 30 000m2 area, thus, he created a small palace with an Italian style, a Gothic-style Chapel and some magnificent gardens.
Some years later, the building was remodelled by Antoni Gaudí who worked on the surrounding of the palace. He created a glorious area with two fountains, a pergola and plenty of Mediterranean plants.
A must-see in this area is the Hercules fountain, it was restored in 1983 and it has a bust of Hercules on the top, a catalan shape on the bottom and a Chinese dragon as a water cannon.
From 1919 to 1931, the Palau Reial de Pedralbes was the residence of the Spanish Royal Family when they visited the city. Today, it is the house of the Museu de la Ceramica and Museu d'Arts Decoratives.
