In and Around Barcelona

El Camp Nou is the stadium of FC Barcelona. When it was inaugurated in 1957, it was called Estadi del FC Barcelona. It was going to be called “estadio Joan Gamper” after the founder of the club but the initiative never happened. It was rumored that the then president of Barça, Francesc Miró-Sans, was excited that the stadium would carry his name, as in the case of Barnabeu in Madrid. Problems at the end of Miró-Sans presidecy reaffirmed the name of the stadium would be what everyone had started to call it, Camp Nou.

The stadium is one of the largest in Europe, with a capacity of 98,771 spectators. It is located in avenida Arístides Maillol, in the district of Les Corts, very close to avenida Diagonal, one of Barcelonas arterial roads. It is one of the few European stadiums classed as 5 star by UEFA.In the stadium grounds are the official headquaters of Fútbol Club Barcelona, administrative offices and the FCB Museum, the most visited in Catalunya. In addition, the Camp Nou is the centerpiece of a complex that also hosts the "Mini Estadi," a football stadium with 20,000 places where teams have play-offs, “la Masia”, a residence where the youngest athletes of the club live, and the Palau Blaugrana, a multipurpose hall for 8,000 spectators, where the teams train and play  basketball, handball hockey and so on.
