A Rooftop in the old city apartment

USERRATING 8/10 2012-05-20 by client The location was very central. It not in the most secure part of the city. The terrace was fabulous and made our stay really enjoyable. Would have been nice to have some basic extras for cooking such as oil and condiments and a larger coffee pot. The bed is low so not the best for people with restricted flexibility. In and Around Barcelona

If you visit Barcelona, you cannot miss the Torre Agbar, an impressive cylindrical skyscraper located in the 22@ district in Poblenou, between avinguda Diagonal and calle Badajoz.

The building is 145m tall with 34 stories, plus 4 underground levels, making it  the third tallest building of Barcelona.

The tower was designed by the studio of arquitect Jean Novel in collaboration with the Barcelona arquitects b720 Arquitectos. Nouevel explains his tower is not a skyscraper in the sense of American skyscrapers. It is a unique experience, in the middle of a city. But it is not simply a harsh vertical line or spike, like the spires of a church which accentuate the skyline.

The most notable thing about the building is the nocturnal illumination, with more than 40000 LEDs allowing the display of luminescent images. The system allows each of the LEDs to light up  independently.

If you come to Barcelona at New Year, you can watch the amazing dancing lights on the building to welcome the new year, simulating the 12 bells of the end of the year (a typical Spanish tradition”.

I have received the 2011 year waiting like an idiot (and so did others) for the tower to light up. I think this event only happened last year and is totally misleading as nothing happened december 31, 2010. Sad way to start the year! anyone knows why??
