The Olympic Village
Friday, 19 March 2010 10:48
Barcelona hosted the Olympics in 1992 and it proved massively beneficial for the city. Millions were invested in the infrastructure and urbanisation of the city and although some parts along the beach were destroyed to be renovated the effect on the city has only been positive. Ring Roads were built, the airport was renovated and expanded and Barcelona became one of the most visited cities in Europe.
The Beach
Tuesday, 16 March 2010 10:27
Barcelona is such a popular tourist destination largely because of its climate and thus its beach. People who visit the city can enjoy the amazing sites, which are enough in themselves, the incredible culture and still enjoy sitting on the beach and swimming in the sea. There is a stretch of coastline in Barcelona which is separated into 3 parts going north from the port. The most popular, due to its location essentially at the end of the Ramblas, by Barceloneta metro, is Barceloneta Beach. In the summer this beach can only be described as swarming, but if you are prepared to do anything for a tan then no doubt you will be able to stomach it.
The "ERASMUS" film tour
Tuesday, 09 March 2010 12:01
This tour is not actually anything to do with ERASMUS but instead is centred around the film 'L'Auberge Espagnole'. It was filmed in Barcelona and Paris on 2001 and explores the story of a graduate from France who travels to Barcelona to study further under the ERASMUS scheme and shares Barcelona apartments with seven other European students from all over the continent. In this multi lingual house we follow his somewhat hectic life as cultural differences and language barriers are exposed by the relentless diversity among him and his friends.
The Woody Allen Film Tour
Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:50
Barcelona has been the setting for some very famous films over the years and boasts some of the most famous casts and directors on these film sets. Woody Allen has to be one of the most successful directors of all time and he filmed in the city just three years ago in the summer of 2007 with star studded cast of Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem, when making the hit film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona". The film was principally set in Barcelona but they also shot some of it in New York and Asturias. It was Allen's first film in Spain but you wouldn't have know as Cruz picked up an Oscar for best supporting actress and it won best film of the year at the Golden Globes.
Palau de Música Catalana
Friday, 29 January 2010 16:59
The Palau de Música is one of the most spectacular buildings in Barcelona. It was designed by the modernist architect Lluís Domenech i Montaner and is very in keeping with the works of Antonio Gaudi in Eixample. It is a concert hall which is still frequently used for different types of music not solely classical performances.
