The Olympic Village
שישי, 19 מרץ 2010 10:48
Barcelona hosted the Olympics in 1992 and it proved massively beneficial for the city. Millions were invested in the infrastructure and urbanisation of the city and although some parts along the beach were destroyed to be renovated the effect on the city has only been positive. Ring Roads were built, the airport was renovated and expanded and Barcelona became one of the most visited cities in Europe.
The Olympic Village is one metro stop on from Barceloneta northward along the coast line. If you go up start your walk by what are Barcelona's "Twin Towers". They are the 2 highest buildings in the city, one is offices and the other Hotel Arts the first 5* hotel in the city. In the square below these towers you can see the giant fountain designed by Mercé and the statue of David and Goliath, in the distance the famous gold fish and beyond that the Atlanta Gardens and the chimney of the Can Folch factory, which signifies the industrial nature of that area before the development. Then go through the Park of the Olympic Harbour where you will find lots of different designs by acclaimed architects, like canals and fountains and when you arrive at Plaza del Campions you will see 257 plaques dedicated to the Gold Medals won in the '92 games.

If its the sporting facilities you wan to see you can also go up to Montjüic to see the athletics stadium that is now home to the Espanya football team, the velodrome and swimming was also held up there.
