Barceloneta Beach
שישי, 03 ספטמבר 2010 09:01
Barceloneta beach is not just the longest beach in the city of Barcelona but also the most central and popular one with the best infrastructure and the most services available. It has a length of 1.1 km and it is so well connected to the rest of the city due to its own metro stop (yellow line) and a variety of buses that it is also the easiest to reach and most visitors go there by public transport. You can also reach it by walking down the famous Las Ramblas and all these factors make Barceloneta especially popular amongst tourists. Unfortunately, this leads to a usually overcrowded beach in the summer time and you will hardly find any locals there as they generally leave the city if they want to take a sunbath or dip into the sea.

The tradition is said to have been originated in the 18th century close to Tarragona and has since then continually grown its popularity and it is know a sport that is not just executed in Catalonia but all over Spain and every year huge competition take place in which the best team is crowned that managed to build and safely disassemble the highest tower. The first step -the assembly of the castell is complete when the enxaneta reaches the top and raises one hand with four fingers erect, in a gesture said to symbolize the stripes of the Catalan flag. The enxaneta is usually a very young and small child and this position is the most desired one yet also the most dangerous.

Costa Brava
שני, 30 אוגוסט 2010 09:40
The famous Costa Brava is a coastal region that belongs to Catalonia in the north of Spain. It stretches out 214km from the river La Tordera close to the city of Barcelona until the city of Portbou at the border to France. It was first called Costa Brava in the year 1907 by the journalist Ferran Agullo that tried to describe the beautiful landscape and coastal line with its sandy beaches and mild temperatures that appeared to be wild and yet undiscovered. Therefore, he chose the name Costa Brava (Wild Coast). Ever since then the area has quickly become a destination for millions of tourists that come every year during the summer time to enjoy the sandy beaches and to relax on the Costa Brava. The most touristy and popular places are Blanes, Tossa de Mar and Lloret de Mar that attract particularly young people (especially from England, France and Germany) that want to party and relax in the sun.
So if you are seeking a quiet and tranquil holiday experience those places are probably not the best option for you.
