Palau de la Música Catalana
The Palau de la Música Catalana is one of the most beautiful auditoriums of the world and one of the most spectacular buildings in Barcelona. It was designed by the modernist architect Lluís Domenech i Montaner, a leading representative of Catalan Modernism. The structure is designed as a concert hall, which is still used for different types of music performances. It is located in Carrer Sant Francesc de Paula, 2, in La Ribera.
The construction was carried out between 1905 and 1908, with the application of large glass walls and integration of all arts, sculpture, mosaics, stained glass and wrought iron.
The concert halls itself has references dating back to the Ancient Greeks. There are amazing sculptures of Pegasus and of the ancient Greek gods on the walls.
The most exciting part of the concert hall is the organ that plays itself. The acoustic of the auditorium is unbeatable. The best musicians and conductors in the world of the last century have played in the Palau. It is an authentic shrine of Catalonia and a music concert hall. In 1997, UNESCO included the building in the list of World Heritage Sites.
