On the hill of Montjuïc, you can find CaixaForum, which opened its doors in 2002. Displaying pieces of art from the seventies until more recent works, this young museum nowadays is already being seen as one of the most appreciated museums of it's kind.
The museum was established in the Casaramona, a former textile factory. This is why some of the rooms look very indistinct. The complex consists out of 12.000 square meters and is belonging to one of the most beautiful industrial modernist structures of the city.
Caixa was designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch. In the Caixaforum, you can observe divers artworks from respected artist like Tapies, Julian, Schnabel, Joseph Beuys and Sol LeWitt.
There is a broad program of social, cultural and educative projects. You can find temporary expositions of classic, modern and contemporary art. Besides this, there is a mediateca where the focus lies on contemporary art and "all time" music. Concerts and films are programmed regularly and you can take part in literary, multimedia and family events. It also gives access the roof, where there are great views of the city.
