Coctelería Boadas
Tuesday, 11 August 2009 14:51
It all started in 1933 when Miguel Boadas, a catalán born in Cuba, who was working in the mythical Floridita de La Habana, wanted to bring to Barcelona the art of combining liquors in a purpose built place.
Even though it is located in the trendy part of the city, in a touristic street - calle Tallers on the corner of the Ramblas, it is one of the few pockets of autenticity in Barcelona. Small, with a large wooden bar and matching barstools, full of paintings on the wall and a batallion of expert tuxedo wearing waiters. From the first impressions, it could be straight out of a Scott Fitzgerald novel. One of its key aspects is the clientele, a mixture of loyal patrons, natives celebrating a special occasion and foreigners, all well dressed. This is due to the dress code, no bermudas are allowed.
The atmosphere in the Coctelería Boadas is cordial and pleasant, allthough it fills up quickly as it is quite small. Even when packed, it is worth visiting , and if you secure a seat at the bar, you can enjoy a good cocktail. There are cocktails for all tastes: Vodka Collins, Bloody Mary, Gimlet, Rob Roy... Because of all this, the Coctelería Boadas as earned an enviable reputation in Barcelona, it is a pioneer in Spain and considered one of the best cocktail bars.
