El BulliAlthough not located in the center of Barcelona, this restaurant needs to be mentioned. El Bulli is a three Michelin star  restaurant and voted the best restaurant in the world, for the fourt year in a row by The Restaurant Magazine. It offers a mix of Catalan and international cuisine in different and unique combinations for the platters. El Bulli is only open from April to October and it is said that the restaurant, due to its popularity is booked up one year in advance. Since the restaurant is only open for six months, the remaining year is spent on developing dishes for the following year by different culinary experiments.


Ferran AdriaThe head chef of the restaurant is Fernando Adrià Acosta, known more as Ferran Adrià. He began his career in a French restaurant in Castelldefelds (town close to Barcelona) as a dishwasher. He was taught classical culinary techniques at the same time which  he applied when becoming an assistant chef at the Finisterre restaurant in Barcelona where he worked before becoming a chef in the military. After joining El Bulli as a line cook, he was, after only 18 months promoted to head chef. Since then, Ferran Adrià has brought international recognition to El Bulli.

Besides the 3 Michelin stars and the award of best restaurant in the world, El Bulli has received several other awards during the years such as The White Guide Gastronomy Award (2007), Gold Medal to the European Merit (2007) and the Silver Spoon (2003).
