A Rooftop in the old city apartment

USERRATING 8/10 2012-05-20 by client The location was very central. It not in the most secure part of the city. The terrace was fabulous and made our stay really enjoyable. Would have been nice to have some basic extras for cooking such as oil and condiments and a larger coffee pot. The bed is low so not the best for people with restricted flexibility. Barcelona info

Even if Spain has a set amount of bank-holidays (maximum 14 a year) it seems that at summer almost every weekend there is some fiesta. Because there are many regions in Spain, two of the public holidays are allowed to be holidays at the regional level. There are three kinds of holidays: national, Catalan (as an autonomous region) and barcelona city holidays.
As in almost every country the weekend lasts from Saturday till Sunday.

List of public holidays:

National Public Holidays 2010

These holidays apply all over Spain and are treated rather like weekends with regards to how many shops open. The 6th January is more important than Christmas day as it is when the children receive their presents as a result everything is shut as most people are with their families. However do not worry that you will be stuck, unable to eat or find anywhere that sells water. There will be a number of corner shops open and you will not have to travel far to find everything you need, it will just be a bit more expensive.

1 January     New Year's Day (Friday)
6 January     Epiphany (Wednesday)
2 April      Good Friday (Friday)
4 April      Easter (Sunday)
1 May     Labour Day  (Saturday)
15 August      Assumption (Sunday)
12 October     National Day (Tuesday)
1 November     All Saints' Day (Monday)
6 December     Constitution Day (Monday)
8 December      Immaculate Conception (Wednesday)
25 December     Christmas Day (Saturday)

Regional Public Holidays 2010

Regional holidays apply only to Catalunya, the district of Spain that Barcelona is in. They are equally if not more important as the National days because of Catalunya's strong regionalism.

5 April     Easter Monday (Monday)
24 June     Día de San Juan (Thursday)
11 September     Catalonia National Day  (Saturday)
