Even if Spain has a set amount of bank-holidays (maximum 14 a year) it seems that at summer almost every weekend there is some fiesta. Because there are many regions in Spain, two of the public holidays are allowed to be holidays at the regional level. There are three kinds of holidays: national, Catalan (as an autonomous region) and barcelona city holidays.
As in almost every country the weekend lasts from Saturday till Sunday.

Girona Airport
18.11.2009 14:32
Girona-Costa Brava Airport, which is located 103 kms away from Barcelona, is a widely used alternative to El Prat Airport. People are travelling to Costa Brava -especially during summertime to Lloret de Mar, Blanes, Tossa de Mar- usually choose Girona(Gerona in Catalan) Airport and mostly budget airlines take off and land in there. If you are travelling with one of those budget airlines companies, which is quiet common in Europe, the transportation from/to Barcelona is a significantly important issue for this airport since it is a little bit far from Barcelona. You canfind some different ways of getting to Girona Airport from Barcelona and from Barcelona to Girona Airport provided with timetables and prices.

Barcelona is surrounded with taxis as they are riding around the entire city. It is an often used transport by travelers visiting Barcelona and a known image of the city. When looking for one, within just a few minutes one will come by. These black and yellow cabs can take you to any place in and around the city. They are often located near big clubs, popular buildings, squares and other important places. Taxis are an affordable but most of all fast option to transport yourself to your destination.
El Prat Airport

The main airport of Barcelona is El Prat which is far away 13 kms away from the center. El Prat is newly renovated in June 2009 with the aim of making the airport a big center for national and international flights. With brand new 2 terminals, modern shops, cafes and restaurants you can even enjoy while you are waiting for your flight.

First of all it is worthwhile to mention that Barcelona is a relatively safe city. Although the city has experienced a huge boom during the last decade it has remained a calm city, still very friendly to the millions of visitors that come from all over the world.
However, there are some things that you should be aware of when you arrive for the first time to Barcelona:
