F.C. Barcelona or "Barça”, as the club is popularly known, was founded in 1899 by Swissborn Hans Gamper and eleven other enthusiasts in the beginnings of what was to become modern-day soccer. More than a century of history , full of great victories (including two European Cups and 18 league titles) and times of misfortune , has forged the personality of an institution which is said to be “much more than a club”. Indeed, in the times of its greatest hardships, coinciding with the dictatorship of General Franco, it became a symbol of freedom and an expression of the cultural and political identity of Catalonia.

Its stadium, the Camp Nou, has room for almost 100,000 spectators and is the sport facility of largest capacity in all Europe. Here, visitors can see the club’s museum, a “must” for football fans.
