Museu del Modernisme Català
The museum is quite a new point on the cultural map of Barcelona. The modernist art was before a private collection (of antique dealers Fernando Pinós and María Guirao) that became opened to public in 2010. It is the only museum that is dedicated exclusively to Catalan Art Nouveau.
The Museu de Modernisme Català is located in modernist building designed by Enric Sagnier. The original Catalan vaults were restored and the flooring on the ground floor preserved to keep the unique spirit of the museum. The place has the area of 1,000 m2 and is located in Eixample district full of modernist buildings. So you will be able to experience that kind of art in many ways.
The collection of the museum includes around 350 pieces made by 42 of well known modernist artists. We can see different disciplines of art there: painting, sculpture, furniture and decorative arts.
The new exhibits include works of Busquets, Gaspar Homar, Francesc Jevellí, Antoni Gaudí, Enric Clarasó, the Oslé brothers and the Masriera and Carreras studio. Worth seing are paintings by Ramon Casas, Joaquim Mir, Martí Alsina, Pere Borrell and other artists. You will be able to experience a wide range of modernist pieces and You will be amazed.
The top floor of the museum is dedicated to Antoni Gaudí with his furniture and decorative pieces. On the ground floor we can find paintings, sculptures, stained glass, different kinds of furniture, crucifixes, ceramics and other everyday items. It must be mentioned that everyday use objects from that period of time are masterpieces that must be seen.
