Christmas is undoubtedly a special time of the year when whole cities can be transformed into a fairytale with the help of putting up decorations, decorating shops in typical Christmas styles and having that Christmas feeling that makes you excited for the holidays. Well, Chirstmas in Barcelona is not different, but even more exciting since the streets are adorned by numerous lit up street lighting and most of the shops put many effort in decorating, espcially the larger stores such as El Corte Inglés or FNAC making even a simple shopping trip much more magical.

The most famous shopping street in Barcelona is Passieg De Gracia and this is the place to go for Designer brands as the street contain stores form brands such as Burberry, Gucci, Louis Vuitton to Valentino and many more. The street itself is great to walk along as it is also home to some of Barcelona´s finest buildings such as La Perdera and Casa Batllo. The nearest metro station is Passeig De Gracia on line 3. Passeig De Gracia leads to Plaza Catalunya, which can be your starting point for shopping from Plaza Catalunya to the end of Passeig de Gracia.

If you want a variety of shops in one place then the best place for you to go would be one of Barcelona´s various shopping malls.

• Maremagnum is located at the end of La Rambla at Barcelona`s Harbor, with the nearest metro station being Drassanes on Line 3.
• L’Illa is located on the street that cuts through the centre of Barcelona, Diagonal.
• Glòries is in front of the Torre Agbar, which dominates the Barcelona skyline, the nearest metro is Glòries on Line 1.
• Diagonal Mar is located close to one of Barcelona`s beaches and can be accessed by metro at the El Maresme station on line 4.
• Another great shopping centre in Barcelona is La Maquinista, which can be accessed by the Torres i Bages / Sant Andreu metro station on line 1.
• At last but not least there is the Gran Via2 shopping mal, at the end of Barcelona`s biggest street Gran Via. It can be reached by busses, which are passing Plaza Espanya and Catalunya.

If you want to avoid mainstream shops then head to the Grácia district of Barcelona. Here, you will find numerous vintage shops, where each of them are very unique, where you might find the perfect extraordinary gift. Grácia is definitely a great place to shop as it will help you to get into the christmas spirit and many of the shops will be decorated while playing christmas music. The Carrer de l'or street and Torrent de l'Olla 31 are two streets in the Grácia district that are great to visit and do some further Christmas shopping.

Barcelona is of course also home to some large department stores such as FNAC and the huge El Corte Inglés. This is a great place to go if you want spend a lot of your shopping in one store as El Corte Inglés sells everything that you could wish for. Do not forget to check out the El Corte Inglés toy section on Plaza Catalunya as there is normally a Santa Claus here for children to have their photo taken with, helping everyone to get into the christmas spirit. FNAC on the other side of Plaza Catalunya is another great store and also boasts a impressive range of goods for sale.

Barcelona has a number of Christmas markets too. Perhaps the most famous christmas market is the Mercado de Santa Lucía located in the Plaza de la Catedral. This is the place to come for traditional Catalan christmas items such as “Caga Tío” and the “Caganer”. There are numerous other items sold such as christmas ornaments, decoration, traditional Catalan christmas sweets and christmas trees. There are of course more Christmas markets located all over the city such as the one by the Sagrada Familia, which is a very popular one.

So in general, Barcelona is a great place for Christmas shopping as it will offer something for everyone and there is a wide selection of things to do and keep you in the christmas mood while shopping.
