A Rooftop in the old city apartment

USERRATING 8/10 2012-05-20 by client The location was very central. It not in the most secure part of the city. The terrace was fabulous and made our stay really enjoyable. Would have been nice to have some basic extras for cooking such as oil and condiments and a larger coffee pot. The bed is low so not the best for people with restricted flexibility. Casa milàCasa Milà, better known as La Pedrera, is one of the visionary masterpiece of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudì . It was built during the years 1905–1910, being considered officially completed in 1912.

Pedro Milà i Camps, a rich businessman was impressed by the Casa Battló, an expressionist building designed by Gaudi. He commissioned Gaudi to construct an apartment building on a corner site at the Passeig de Gracia, in the Eixample district.

It breaks with traditional architecture by using not a single straight line. The building does not use load-bearing walls, but rest on pillars and arches. Together with the use of steel this allowed the architect to create completely irregular floor plans. Even the height of the pillars and ceilings differ from one to another. In order to allow light in all the

Gaudi wanted the people who lived in the flats to all know each other therefore there were only lifts on every second floor so people had to communicate with one another on different floors.

The building is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site "Works of Antoni Gaudì".
