Barcelona City Guide The best things to see and do in Barcelona

Parc del Laberint

Barcelona has a lot of wonderful hidden parks you might have not seen yet. Park Labyrinth is one of them. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful parks in Barcelona, which makes it very interesting to visit. It was built in the 18th century by Italian architect Domenico Bagutti. The park was owned by the Desvalls family, but in 1971 they had to give their territory to the city of Barcelona, because they could not take care of it anymore.

If you enter the park you will find the former palace of the Desvalls family on the right, which is a very old and beautiful building with neoarabic and neogothic elements. Torre Sobirana, an ancient medieval watchtower belongs to this complex as well.

The park extends over a surface of 9.1 hectares and is divided in two parts: the neoclassical garden and the romantic garden. Around the park you will find numerous sculptures, as well as a number of fountains, springs and pools.

The neoclassical garden is divided into three terraces:

  • The lower terrace is made up of 750 meters of trimmed cypress trees.
  • The intermediate terrace, where there are two Italian-style pavilions with Tuscan columns and statues of Danae and Ariadne, are replicas of the round roman temples without cella. And at the third terrace, there is a pavilion dedicated to the nine muses, crowned by a sculpture depicting art and nature. Behind the pavilion, there is a big pond with water coming from a natural source.
  • The romantic garden is divided in series of flower beds and small squares under the shade of huge trees. On the northern part of the park, there is a waterfall. The park gardens are surrounded by a large area of Mediterranean forest.

The Park is situated in the Horta district, which is quite far from the center. By metro it will take 20-30 minutes from Plaza Cataluña. The park itself is quite big and is surrounded by forest.

There are lots of different flowers and plants in the park, which make the view as amazing as the park itself. However, the most interesting thing is the labyrinth where you can easily get lost. This labyrinth park is becoming more and more popular by tourists, which simply want to enjoy a nice day in a beautiful and old park.
