Barcelona Aquarium

Barcelona's Aquarium is one of the most important marine leisure and educational centers in the world concerning the Mediterranean. The aquarium became an unique center and reference leisure show that is already visited by more than 14 million people. What makes this aquarium so unique? Well, a series of 35 tanks, 11.000 animals divided over 450 different species, an 80 meter long underwater tunnel filled with six million liters of water and a huge Oceanarium. All this, makes it reason enough to visit Barcelona`s aquarium during your holiday in Barcelona.

It was inaugurated on September 8, 1995, using the latest technology to reproduce, as closely as possible, different under sea environments. Tours of all the 21 aquariums displaying the wonders of the different marine communities of the Mediterranean Sea (among them the immense Oceanarium) and the colorful tropical seas; exposure Aqua Planet, and Explore Space!

Attractions

You can even dive with sharks, for a reasonable fee! You have the possibility to enjoy a unique experience, while diving with the sharks in Barcelona's aquarium to get to know these animals better and see them from close by. There is a minimum age of 18 required and you will pay approximately €300 for this amazing experience.

One of the attractions of Barcelona`s aquarium is the Mediterranean specie. In order to see them without getting wet, the aquarium allows you to wander past 14 different aquariums representing the Mediterranean communities. It is of course impossible to know the most characteristic species. Between the tanks there are also two re-creations of protected areas of the coasts of Catalonia. A walk through the methacrylate tunnel in the Oceanarium make you feel like you are swimming among sharks.

Other services

There is a room with a spectacular tank available as a background and with a capacity of 168 seats, which is called Barcelona Auditorium. It offers you the possibility to see films or documentaries as a complement to your visit. It is also a suitable place for meetings, talks, projections and company presentations.

Furthermore you can find a cafeteria/self-service restaurant, where you can choose from a variety of dishes such as salads, pasta, meat, desserts, drinks etc. So if you need to make a stop, they offer you a cafeteria and self-service where you can get your strength back to continue the excellent visits to the sea and the fishing port.
