St Anthony's Day
Wednesday, 16 December 2009 16:51
On the 17th of January all of the Barcelona Pets are dominating the pavements and with their owners are taking part in Cabalgata dels Tres Tombs - the St Anthony's Day. The "special guests" are not only cats and dogs, as one could presume - there are also donkeys, mules and other unusual "pets". StAntothony is the patron of animals, so on his day a special parade is organised every year to bless the domestic animals in different parts of the city. The biggest celebrationis located in St Andreu and the second big takes place in Exiample. As every Barcelona parade the Cabalgata dels Tres Tombs is full of extraordinary events. Of caurse there are giant costumes, sardana (typical Catalan dance), castellers (acrobats build a "human pyramids") and a lot of fun! The parade starts naturally on the Ronda Sant Antoni continues through Plaça Universitat and down Pelaio to reach finally Plaça Catalunya.
