A Rooftop in the old city apartment

USERRATING 8/10 2012-05-20 by client The location was very central. It not in the most secure part of the city. The terrace was fabulous and made our stay really enjoyable. Would have been nice to have some basic extras for cooking such as oil and condiments and a larger coffee pot. The bed is low so not the best for people with restricted flexibility. Barcelona events and fiestas

Barcelona accommodationEaster is an important time for the Christian population of Barcelona and in fact all of Spain. The week leading up to Easter Sunday is called Semana Santa and there are lots of traditional processions starting on Palm Sunday for a week until Easter Sunday. They start with a proceedings with a procession around the cathedral of people holding palms to commemorate the people who laid palms infront of Jesus as he was riding into Jerusaem on a donkey and the week continues with more religious ceremonies and concerts to celebrate.

The week does not over power the city and non-Christians have no problems. Business goes on as usual in Barcelona as Easter is a very popular time for tourists to visit the city so you do not have to worry that everything will be shut as the tourist industry continues, but do make sure you book your hotel well in advance as they fill up very quickly around Semana Santa. Good Friday and Easter Monday are both bank holidays so the city will not be as open as normal over the Easter weekend, but that is not out of the ordinary

If you find some of the attractions are closed during this week do not forget that a number of Gaudi buildings are still impressive from the outside. You can check out Casa Battló on Passeig de Gracia, La Pedrera which is also know as Casa Mila and ofcourse the magnificent Sagrada Familia is equally awe inspiring from the outside. There are also lots of sights that never need admission so go to the Magic Fountain at Montjuic or wander through the Gothic area where you'll find all sorts of amazing places.
