A Rooftop in the old city apartment

USERRATING 8/10 2012-05-20 by client The location was very central. It not in the most secure part of the city. The terrace was fabulous and made our stay really enjoyable. Would have been nice to have some basic extras for cooking such as oil and condiments and a larger coffee pot. The bed is low so not the best for people with restricted flexibility. Barcelona events and fiestas

Did you ever heard about Carnival in Rio? Probably yes, but you could not join the party, because Rio is far away and travelling to Brazil can be enjoyed by only few Europeans. That is why we would like to invite you to Carnival in Barcelona. This is one is the life chance to take part in best party in Barcelona. This year the carnival starts in February and the city has prepared lots of attractions for this occasion.
The tradition of carnival started in 1333, but the greatest splendour is recorded for the 19th century. During Franco dictatorship the tradition was prohibited, that is probably why nowadays Spanish people pay such a great attention to those festive days.

Because the parades and parties are so enormous it is one of the most spectacular events during the whole year. Originally the Parade (Gran Rua de Carnaval) was starting on Passeig de Gracia and Rambla, but as they became to small it was removed a couple of times and since 2001 it takes place on Carretera de Sants.

But Carnival is not only the parade with amazing costumes, music, people singing and snowfall of confetti. The other very popular tradition is Fatty Thursday (Jueves Lardero). On this day there are several tortilla (special Spanish food from eggs, potatoes and onion) competitions. The one who makes the most tasty, good looking tortilla and will present it in the most original way wins. Moreover thejueves Lardero is a "celebration" of spicy meat. In Catalunya there are loads of extremely delicious meat and sausages. The most popular of them are Fuet and salchichón - it is a must to taste them.
One of the attractions is the "pimiento de oro" competition. On the streets, market and other commercial establishments local carnival guilds fight for the "golden paper" price. It is fun a lot of fun to see these competitions.
At the end of carnival the king "dies" and the party dies with him. It is celebrated with a funeral. everything is decorated with black, so there is a strong "similarity" to a normal ceremony.
