London guide - Londra'da ziyaret edilecek yerler
Hyde Park is one of the biggest parks in central London and was originally a royal hunting ground. It is juxtaposed with Kensington Garden with only Exhibition Road separating the two. In this large grassy area there are two bodies of water, the Serpentine and the Round Pond. When the sun shines Hyde Park is famous for people paddling in these ponds and sun bathing in deck chairs. It is the closest thing the inhabitants of London have to a coastline!
But aside from the people who walk, run, ride or even rollerblade through the park there are much more intricate details for which it is famous for. In Hyde Park the is the reknowned Speaker's Corner. In the north east corner of the park is the only place where public speaking is allowed. People go there to voice their opinion and support their beliefs and only when the crowd gets out of hand or the speaker talks profanely, do the police intervene.
For Kensington Gardens, its fame comes from a fictional place in the form of J.M Barrie's wonderful tale of Petrt Pan, the boy who never grew up. Barrie set the play in Kensington Gardens as he always imagined the life that went on there once the gates were shut at night. He believed that magical creatures like fairies would come to life there after "lock out". As a result there is a wonderful statue of the boy who wouldn't grow up in the gardens and for the first time in 2009 a mind blowing 3D production was staged in the gardens themselves to celebrate such a influential children's story.
Hyde Park is an important par4t of London. It is for some people the only greenery they see but it also has a huge amount of history and culture within its gates.
