short term rentals londonLike any major Christian city London comes alive at Christmas, the lights are spectacular and everybody is uplifted by the bright and festive atmosphere. Places like the West End and Picadilly seem magical with their amazing decorations and Trafalgar Square even has an enormous Christmas tree, which is normally over 20 metres tall, from Norway every year.

If you are lucky enough to be in London over Christmas you must make sure you get a taste of some Christian traditions. There are fantastic carol services all around the city, some of which are in the most spectacular locations. St. Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey both host services with thousands of people who attend every year, but if you would rather a more relaxed, jovial feel you can try Trafalgar Square around the Christmas tree, although it is more like carol shouting!

Another thing you must get involved with is ice skating. There are rinks all around the city, again in very prestigious places. Hampton Court, The Natural History Museum, The Tower of London and Canary Wharf all have open air rinks around Christmas but one of the most spectacular is Somerset House, just off the Strand. Go in the evening when it is dark and the lighting is magical. There is a rink for children as well so they can come too and there are people to help them if you want to go and have a quick skate on your own. Adult tickets cost around £10 in the day time and £13 in the evening and all you need is to wrap up warm as your boots are provided for you.

Talking about children, you must check out Santa's Grotto. They are found in all the big departments stores like Selfridges and ofcourse Harrods. Harrods is worth the visit just for the incredible Christmas Shopping, and the ridiculous amounts of people buying ridiculous amounts of things. All the shops are decorated really well and you will not be disappointed by you encounter of Father Christmas.

Similarly a Pantomime is a great idea to entertain the children. There are lots on around Christmas and they are great fun, but if you would rather something slightly more grown up then try a production of Charles Dickens', A Christmas Carol. It is one of the most famous of his novels and the stage and props are wonderful and ofcourse you get to meet the grumpy old Scrooge...Ba Humbug!

short term rentals LondonLondon is a pretty big city so you can find all sorts of night life there. There is a huge live music scene if that is your cup of tea and ofcourse like any major city an enormous amount of clubs of all different types. There are also lots of bars, many of which have dance floors but are not your stereotypical clubs. There are pubs too, where you might start your night, then move on to a slightly more upbeat bar and then finally to a club.

There is not much time left to plan your New Years Eve in London but it is still possible. It is a great city all the year round but on the 31st of December it is more alive than ever. All the christmas decorations are still up and the city still has a festive feel to it, which heightens everyone´s excitement when it comes to welcoming in the New Year.

There are your standard parties in club and bars, like in any other city but you will also find people celebrating on the street and in house parties.

When the clock strikes twelve there is no tradition, like in Spain and "las uvas", instead there is just one huge cheer and an amazing fireworks display televised all over the country.

The prices for clubs are very mcuh the same as any normal night out in London. But they will be packed full and you might find yourself queueing for hours, or even being refused for not having got on a guest list. To avoid this, decide where you want to go and make sure you sort out entrance before the night.

New Years in London will be a night not to be forgotten, in one of the most vibrant cities in the world.

Changing of the Guards at Buckingham PalaceThe Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace is one of the oldest traditions, and today, one of the most photographed by tourists.

The Royal Guard is responsible for guarding the palaces of the British monarchy since 1660. Until 1689, the Sovereign lived in Whitehall Palace guarded by the royal cavalry, in that year, the court moved to St.James Palace.

It was Queen Victoria who moved to Buckingham Palace in 1837 and decided to divide the duty of guarding both palaces, establishing a custom which continues today.

The guards at Buckingham Palace are called "Queen's Guard” and are divided into 2 detachments: the Buckingham Palace and St.James Palace. The Changing of the Guard ceremony involves the replacement of positions of a group of infantry guards for another.
