London guide - London attractions
London is one of the most important cities in the world. Thanks to its rich and varied history, its various tourism alternatives, economic movement and its various alternatives for entertainment, this city has a large number of green areas to be enjoyed by Londoners and tourists.
The most representative and largest is the Hyde Park, with its 142 acres. You can choose to take a guide from any entrance of the park, or to get lost between its paths and enjoy from its well-kept green areas and oxygen provided by the huge trees you can find there; resting after sitting by the Serpentine lake. But make no mistake, the bridge on the lake connects with another beautiful park named Kensington Gardens. These parks are technically separate since 1728, when Queen Caroline made a division between the two of them.
If tranquility its not what you are looking for, Hyde Park also offers various sports activities like tennis, bowling and horseback riding. You can sail at the lake or just go jogging. If you have occasion to visit the park during the summer you will surely find one of the festivals that are often held there.
Like the rest of the royal parks of London, Hyde Park was once a hunting preserve of Henry VIII. In the seventeenth century, James I granted access to the public, but only to those that were properly dressed up.
The park has several entrances, all interesting to know, but the most impressive one is the Hyde Park Screen, right next to the Apsley House.
In the northeast of the park there’s the Speaker's Corner, a curious and unique place in Britain where people can assemble and publicize his speeches, without official permission.
Note that Hyde Park has many places of great cultural and sentimental significance for the city as the Memorial (in honor of Diana Princess of Wales), the Holocaust Memorial and the Albert Memorial (in honor of the husband of Queen Victoria).
