London guide - London attractions
Kensington Palace is the royal residence in Kensington and Chelsea, it sits on the edge of Kenisngton Gardens and Hyde Park and is currently home to The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke and Duchess of Kent and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. Prince Harry and his cousin Zara Philips also use it as their London base.
The state rooms are open to the public but obviously the parts where the royals reside are not and it is run and maintained by the royal household like Buckingham Palace. The open part is run by a non-profit charity. The Princess of Wales, Diana, lived there before her death in 1997. There was a memorial fountain built in her name in 2003 to represent her loving nature and devotion to children.
Highlights of Kensington Palace in London
The kings Gallery is a the longest section of Kensington palace, and is decorated as it was in 1727. With huge portraits lining the walls, it is an impressive sight. There is a large dial over the fire place connected to a windvane on the roof, so King William 3rd could see which way the wind was blowing.
The palace is in the process of having 12 million pounds spent on it, improving access, restoring areas of the grounds and creating new public gardens
Nearest Tube: Queensway (central line) or High Street Kensington (circle line)
