The New National Gallery (Neue Nationalgalerie) houses European paintings and sculptures of the 20th Century, from classical modernism to the art of the '60s. Among them are works by artists like Picasso, Kirchner, Feininger and Kokoschka. Beloved by art fans, Neue Nationalgalerie has a wide collection of works by artists of Cubism, Expressionism, the Bauhaus and Surrealism.
The masterpieces by Picasso, Gris, and Fernand Leger show the development of Cubist art. Expressionism is work of Kirchner, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Heckel. The core of the collection include eleven paintings by Max Beckmann, which were created from 1906 to 1942. The surrealism is represented by artists such as Ernst, Dali and Miro. Otto Dix's and George Grosz's paintings "document" the direction of realism. The Bauhaus is illustrated with works by Kandinsky, Klee.
