Berlin Guide - Green Berlin

New Yorkers have Central Park, Londoners Hyde Park and Berliners have Tiergarten. At the Berlin city map, the 3km wide and 1km long "lung of the city" looks like an inner city island. Is the meeting point of the city at the weekend, perfect place for jogging, skating, playing soccer, walking, or grilling.
But it is not just trees, shrubs and green spaces that define the face of the approximately 200-acre park. Many attractions such as monuments, bridges, the Victory Column, the House of World Cultures, or the English Garden invite you to make a walk in the park.

The Tiergarten suffered in World War II a great damage. After the war the park was almost completely destroyed by Berliners looking for firewood. The reforestation of the park began in 1949 and was carried out almost only with trees "donated" by other German cities.
