The National Gallery situated in Trafalgar Square is home to some 3,200 works of art dating back all the way to the mid 13th century. It was founded in 1824 and all the art belongs to the public of the United Kingdom. As a result the main collection is always free, but the temporary exhibitions are not, still the gallery sees between 4 and 5 millions people pass through it every year . Different exhibitions from all over the world come to the National Gallery, each one stays for a couple of weeks or even months if they are more popular, and as a result the gallery has seen nearly all of the most famous paintings in the world on its walls at some point or another.

It is a great day out, if you are visiting London but beware if you have small children as they may find it harder to appreciate the art quite as much as you do! Some of the most famous paintings in the gallery are Holbein's Ambassadors, Rembrandt's Belshazzar's Feast, George Stubbs' Whistlejacket, Vincent van Gough's Sunflowers, and Titian's Bacchus and Ariadne. You can see all these paintings for free so it would be mad to pass up the opportunity if zou are in London.

The National Gallery is in Trafalgar Square. The nearest tube stops are Embankment or Liecester Square, and the nearest train station is Charring Cross.

Opening Times: Monday to Thursday 10am-6pm and open till 9pm on fridays.
