London guide - London attractions
Many cities in the world are pure cement. This causes its inhabitants to seek the fields in order to see a little green nature. But this does not happen in London as it has a lot of parks and perhaps by the characteristics of its climate they are leafy and beautiful.
Usually the tourists only visit the largest and better known parks as Hyde Park, Regent's Park, St James's Park and Kensington Gardens. But there are some less popular parks, but not less appreciated, to get some fresh air and tranquility, after an exhausting tour day at the city.
Richmond, for example, is large enough to accommodate deer, squirrels, foxes and a large variety of birds. It covers 955 ha. It is located 16 km from central London, west of the city and south of the River Thames. Within the park there’s a wonderful botanical garden, the Isabella Plantation, and the mansion that housed the philosopher Bertrand Russell in its infancy.
Holland Park covers 21 hectares. It is considered as the most romantic place in London by the number of caches and its abundant wildlife. It has a greenhouse, a cricket field, a Japanese garden, peacocks and many paths lined with roses.
In the middle of the park you can find the first Jacobean manor house built in London, Holland House, where there are currently plays and exhibitions.
Entrances to the park are at Kensington High Street, Abbotsbury Road and Holland Road.
Visiting hours: Winter 8.00-16.30, 8.00-20.00 summer.
By the River Thames, there are two parks. The Battersea is on the south side and is a beautiful park with decorative influences from the Far East, and on the opposite side of the river there’s the Bishop's Park, with a large variety of trees.
