london holiday rentalsThe Imperial War Museum as founded during the First World War in 1917 as a way to document the war and commemorate the sacrifice of Britain. As a result, it now acts as a way of informing people about the impact of war on society and its surroundings. The museum has moved locations a couple of times but is now situated in Lambeth. The museum has exhibitions, film screenings, family workshops, events and competitions. There are permanent galleries too which document history from WW1. You will have the chance ot see the Large Exhibit Gallery, The WW1 Galleries, WW2 Galleries, The Holocaust Exhibtion, and an exhibition about Crimes Against Humanity among many others. You can also see the art which arised from the war, some of which is obviously very poingnant and profound.

 

Entry is free, but like The National Gallery you have to pay for the temporary exhibitions,

 

Opening Hours: 10am to 6pm Monday-Sunday (Closed 24th-26th December)

 

Getting there: The best tube stops are Lambeth North, Waterloo (also reached by train) and Elephant and Castle. Bus routes 3, 59, 159, 344, 360
